Remember Life Without 3d Design

Designing homes and remodels has made incredible progress since the 90’s . Back then the biggest challenge in working with clients on conceptual designs was working with 1 dimensional drawings. Although some people have a really good understanding of the one dimensional world, others were definitely deer in the headlights.

I can remember several encounters when we would be going over the drawings and clients would nod their heads in apprehensive approval when I had a pretty good feeling they didn’t really have a grasp of what they were approving.

The advent of 3d cad representations was the best thing that ever happened to designers and prospective home remodelers. Being able to illustrate designs in ortho representations and orbit them around and slice and dice to generate sections has made visualization so much more comprehensive. Thus allowing for better overall understanding of the concept and fewer in the field changes during construction. And best of all, fewer upset clients.
